ABOUT FAS

Femmes Africa Solidarité (FAS) is a women’s
NGO working to engender the peace process
in Africa. Since its inception in 1996, FAS has
worked to foster, strengthen and promote the
leading role of women in the prevention, management and resolution of conflicts on the
African continent.
FAS NGO is an operational organization with
3 offices in Geneva (International Secretariat), in Dakar (Regional Office) and in New
York (Liaison office)

FAS recognizes that women are disproportionately affected by violent conflicts. However,
rather than perceiving women only as passive victims, FAS acknowledges that women
are also active agents with skills, strengths,
and the ability to bring about change. Therefore, FAS works to strengthen the capacities
of grassroots women’s organizations so that
they can participate fully in the processes
of peace building and conflict resolution in
their countries and communities.

Implementation of UNSCR 1325 to promote gender, peace and security at all levels.
• Initiative for Empowering Women in agriculture to promote measures of development
for women and ensure Food Safety.
• Gender and My Agenda campaign (GIMAC) for increase the influence of women in policies and gender sensitive practices.
• International advocacy to transform countries policies in favor of parity between gender and mainstreaming in practice.
• society, including women groups, governments, regional bodies, the African Union (AU)
and the United Nations (UN)

MAIN OBJECTIVES

• Building networks among women and
strengthening their capacities;
• Highlighting women’s initiatives to participate equally in efforts to establish and
maintain peace in their countries;
• Advocating for women’s equal access,
equal responsibility, and equal opportunity to participate in decision-making;
• Coordinating and reinforcing coalitions
of women to increase their influence on
policies and practices in Africa;
• Documenting and sharing lessons learnt
by women in conflict resolution and
peace building
